Kentucky Lock Downstream Lock Addition & Downstream Lock Monoliths – Grand Rivers, KY
The Water Resources Development Act of 1996 authorized The Kentucky Lock Addition project, located at Tennessee River Mile 22.4 in western Kentucky. The project consists of a new 110ft x 1200ft lock to be located landward and adjacent to the existing 110ft x 600ft lock, which will be used as an auxiliary lock. Sauls Seismic was chosen to be the Vibration Specialist on this US Army Corps of Engineers project and conducted pre-blast inspections of the nearby lock and dam. Additionally, Sauls performed vibration monitoring of all sensitive structures near the blasting areas with a total of 16 different monitoring locations. The Sauls Seismic NOW Access℠ website was utilized throughout the project to notify project management of vibration alerts. A combination text/email alert system was set up to send notifications for both alert and action levels of vibration.
