Lashkowitz High Rise Explosive Demolition – Fargo, ND

Built in 1970, this facility provided public housing in Downtown Fargo for decades.  Once demolished, the project will create affordable rental housing for over 290 people and bring new life and business opportunities to part of the city’s riverfront.  The project was partially funded by a $2 million Brownfields Cleanup Grant funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  70 feet north of the building, there was a new apartment building being constructed with tenants scheduled to move in within two months.  Sauls Seismic was asked to create a monitoring plan to ensure that the ground vibration and air overpressure resulting from the explosive demolition were properly documented.  Sauls Seismic was also tasked with providing estimates of the expected vibration and air overpressure levels.  The predicted values, provided by Sauls, were within 0.04 in/sec for ground vibration and 1.2 dB for air overpressure.
