Conley Container Terminal Revitalization: New Berth 10 and Berth 11 Deepening Project – Boston, MA
The Conley Container Terminal has nearly 2.3 million metric tons of cargo pass through it each year, connecting 14 million people in New England with 15 ports in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This Massachusetts Port Authority project added the new Berth 10 and increased the depth of existing Berth 11, with depths of both reaching 50ft. Underwater blasting was performed by Maine Drilling & Blasting who contracted Sauls Seismic to perform vibration monitoring and underwater air overpressure monitoring with 15 simultaneous seismograph and hydrophone locations. The Sauls Seismic Now AccessSM website was utilized throughout the project to notify project management of vibration alerts. A combination text/email alert system was set up to send notifications for both alert and action levels of vibration.
